[Also in Divisions F2 and F4] In a valve unit, means 18 for releasing pressurized fluid from container 14 is connected to a cylinder 36 containing a piston 37 with a piston-rod 38 projecting from the cylinder. Manual rotation of lever 23 depresses member 21 and piston 17 and causes cutter 18 to pierce a closure disc 28 of container 14. Gas then passes via passage 33 into the cylinder 36, movement of piston 37 extending rod 38 and causing a cable on pulley 42 to release members securing a lifejacket stole. Gas then passes through cylinder outlet 46 to inflate the stole. Water sensitive means may fire cartridge 31 to operate the cutter.
