Abstract

1426035 Pneumatic discharge of containers MARTIN ENG CO 14 Jan 1974 [22 Jan 1973] 01759/74 Heading B8A Granular material in a vessel is loosened by sudden release into the material of compressed air through an aerator. The aerator comprises a container, a tube of smaller cross-section than the container extending through the wall of the container, air inlet means in the container adjacent the inner end of the tube and valve means within the container co-operative with the air inlet means and the inner end of the tube to clost first one and then the other. In the Figure, air enters container 10 via inlet means 18 and ports 58, the air pressure causing valve 54 to seal against the other end 26 of tube 22. When air supply is stopped, the air in the container forces valve 54 to seal against ports 58 as it passes into tube 22 via slots 30. The air rapidly enters the vessel in which the material is stored, causing a vibration and break-up of any bridging.
