Abstract

975,052. Pneumatic conveyers; collapsible containers. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. Oct. 30, 1963 [Dec. 4, 1962], No. 42782/63. Headings B8A and B8D. Powdery material is carried in a collapsible container 10 which may be pressurized through an opening 22 prior to an emptying operation (see below), the material being urged on to an air-permeable strip 16 by means of an inflatable annular chamber I. The container is formed of coated cord fabric; a layer 15, which forms the inner wall of each chamber I, is of rubberized cord fabric. Strip 16 may be of cotton. Rubber fabric hinges join the layer 15 to the container wall. A filling member 19, an air inlet 27, and two outlets 23 and 28 are provided. The chamber I may be formed between plies of the container wall. Discharging.-To discharge powder from the container 10, the container is pressurized; either the outlet 23 or the outlet 28 is opened; air or other gas under pressure is passed into a chamber II below the strip 16, through which it passes, and the powder in the container is thereby fluidized as it is expelled through the outlet; and the chamber I is inflated through an inlet 25 to urge the powder on to the strip 16.
