1,198,867. Compressed gas container discharge device. T. FUJIMOTO. 5 Dec., 1967 [8 Dec., 1966; 17 May, 1967; 31 Aug., 1967; 24 Oct., 1967; 27 Oct., 1967; 1 Nov., 1967 (2)], No. 55236/67. Heading F4P. Relative movement between a compressed gas storage cylinder 13, Fig. 1, and a seal cutter 12 is effected by a biasing spring 4 normally restrained by means 7 under tension which on contact with water breaks and allows the spring to extend and thus move the cutter relative to the cylinder seal 14 to effect gas discharge. The tensioned restraining means 7 may comprise a paper cylinder tied at its ends to discs 5, 6 against which opposite ends of spring 4 bear, and water is admitted through inlets 16 of a casing 1 divided by a cutter-holding piston 9 into water and gas spaces; the latter space being connected by a duct 2 to an article to be inflated, e.g. a lifejacket. The cutter may be moved manually by pulling a cord 19 resulting in rocking a lever 17 about a shaft 18 thereby lifting both discs 6, 7 and the cutter piston 9. In a modification the cylinder 13, Fig. 3, is moved towards the cutter 12, and packing rings 28 on the cylinder divide the casing 1 into water and gas spaces. In a further modification the spring 4, Figs. 7A, 7B is restrained by a bar 48 passing between the arms of a cutter pin 44 projecting downwardly from disc 6; the bar being seated against the underside of a casing 46 and the arms being tied at their ends by paper tape 45 which when wetted collapses and allows casing 46 to push the cylinder against the cutter 12.
