Abstract

903,876. Storing gases under pressure. KIDDE CO. Ltd., WALTER. Nov. 11, 1960 [Nov. 30, 1959], No. 40668/59. Class 8(2). [Also in Group XXXIII] A device for releasing gas from a storage chamber to inflate a dinghy, (see Group XXXIII), comprises a socket 21 for engagement with the container and a gas outlet passage 22 through which the gas passes when the sealing diaphragm on the chamber has been ruptured by the hollow plunger 24 which is urged towards this position by a spring 25. The plunger 24 is held in the retracted position by a ball 27 which is held in position by the end 31 of a spindle 32. The spindle 32 is urged in the release direction by a compression 33 but its movement in that direction is blocked by a water soluble plug 35. The plug 35 is shielded from contact with water by a shroud 40 which urged to a position exposing the plug 35, through apertures 37 and 38, by a spring 41. The shroud held against exposing movement by a locking ball 42 which can be removed by pulling the cable 8. The shroud 40 also acts as a locking means against movement of the spindle 32 in the event of the plug crumbling prematurely by co-operation with a locking pin 45 which is engaged in a shallow recess 46 in the periphery of the cap 34. In a further embodiment the shroud 40 is moved to the plug exposing position by gas pressure.
