Abstract

1,235,964. Vacuum furnaces. MIDLANDROSS CORP. 13 May, 1969 [6 Sept., 1968], No. 24282/69. Heading F4B. A vacuum furnace comprises a water-cooled casing 12 which is evacuated during a heat treatment, a heating enclosure 30 having openings 38, 36 for the inlet and outlet of a cooling gas during a cooling treatment and heat reflective covers 40, 42 and shields 44 respectively spaced from and within the openings. During the cooling treatment, argon or nitrogen, admitted through a line 65, is circulated through the enclosure 30 and over water-cooled coils 54 by a fan 48. The enclosure 30 is heated by electrical elements 26, 28. The elements of each shield 44 may be perpendicular to or inclined at an oblique angle to the plane of the corresponding opening.
