Abstract
1,076,123. Heat treatment furnaces. H. N. IPSEN. Jan. 29, 1965 [June 12, 1964], No. 4067/65. Heading F4B. In a heat-treatment furnace of the type disclosed in Specification 934,335, the inlet and outlet ports 47, 48 in the inner work chamber 10 are closed by close fitting, retractable covers 60, 61, the said covers providing when open for unobstructed flow of non-oxidizing coolant gas through the said chamber. This gas is circulated by a fan 49 situated above the said outlet port 48 and within a chamber 34, in which are spaced coolant coils 58. During heating, the chamber 10 is evacuated, quenching gas being admitted for the cooling cycle through port 14. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the furnace is vertically disposed, with a hood outside the enclosure surrounding the said outlet port and containing additional cooling elements (125) so that said coolant gas is also cooled prior to reaching the said fan, thus enhancing its circulation and quenching action.
