Abstract
1415937 Vacuum furnaces UGINE INFRA 22 Feb 1973 [23 Feb 1972] 8689/73 Heading F4B A vacuum furnace for heating an annular charge 5 comprises a fluid-tight chamber 1, means for evacuating the chamber, means for introducing and circulating a gas in the chamber and two groups of cylindrically arranged electrical heating elements, one inside and one outside the charge, the supply to the two groups being independently controllable so that the temperature inside and outside the charge may be adjusted to be the same. The heating elements 4, 6 may be resistors or susceptors heated by induction from coils from which they are thermally insulated. When the heat treatment is complete the charge may be cooled by a gas which is circulated by a fan 9 through the heating zone inside shield 3 and over cooling coil 2. Cover 10 is removed during this operation.
