Abstract

1332122 Thawing food HIRST MICROWAVE INDUSTRIES Ltd 21 Sept 1970 [19 Sept 1969] 46389/69 Heading A2D [Also in Divisions H2 and H5] A microwave oven for cooling food is provided with means for heating the air in the oven to a temperature effective for cooking the food and means for supplying the microwave energy intermittently. The oven is generally the same as that of Specification 1172918, with a radiant heater 18, a fan motor 14 for the recirculation of the hot air, but with a pulsing switch 8 for the magnetron 10 as described in Specification 1029124. Several circuits for pulsing a microwave generator are described in Specification 1323551 and may be used with the present invention. Instead of a mechanical switch the pulsing switch may be an electronic switch, e.g. including a silicon controlled rectifier. Reference is made to thawing and cooling frozen foods. The apparatus can also be modified for proofing dough.
