Abstract
1336851 Cooking food HIRST MICROWAVE INDUSTRIES Ltd 18 Aug 1971 [18 Aug 1970 5 Feb 1971] 39785/70 and 4054/71 Heading A2E [Also in Division H5] Microwave heating apparatus for cooking food comprises a cavity 10 and an electrically conductive heated member 22 in contact with the food and maintained at a temperature sufficient to cook the food. Preferably the heated member 22 is the bottom wall of the cavity and is heated by resistance heating elements 28. In a conveyor type oven (not shown) the conveyor may be the heated member. Member 22 may be heated non-electrically, e.g. by gas burners. The invention is applied to the oven of Specification No. 1172918, Fig. 6, which includes an air recirculating fan 60. Support 76 is removed when cooking steaks in direct contact with the heated bottom wall. Heating elements 28 are embedded in plate 22 with a temperature sensor for thermostatic control. Alternatively, the plate member is in two separable parts for easy servicing of the elements, Figs. 11, 12 (not shown). An air temperature sensor 73 is provided for additional thermostatic control. The fan 160, Fig. 13, may be mounted at the top of the oven and serve also as the mode stirrer. The fan 160 has blades 164 and a disc 162 with conductive segments coated thereon providing the mode stirring effect. Fan motor 68 also drives a blower 200 drawing cooling air over the magnetron 54, the air flow in pipe 202 sucking out fumes and smoke during cooking via duct 204, which includes a butterfly valve 206. An alternative form of fan has four twisted metal blades, Fig. 16, (not shown). Reference is made to cooking rump steak, pork chops, lamb cutlets, bacon rashers, pre-cooked frozen food in metal foil containers, frozen raw chicken pies, chickens and bakery products such as pies e.g. pizza pies, with controllable temperatures ranging from 150‹F to 750‹F. A drain hole 32 is provided in the bottom plate 22. The plate may have a ridged surface for providing a striped pattern on steaks, Fig. 9, (not shown), the grooves leading towards the drain bole. An auxiliary removable plate of complementary shape may cover the ridged plate, Fig. 10, (not shown).
