Abstract

1,130,803. Cooking ovens. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 11 Jan., 1967 [20 Jan., 1966; 4 March, 1966; 26 April, 1966], No. 1534/67. Heading F4W. In an oven having a top heating element 32 closely below the top wall of the oven liner 26, vent apertures 48 are formed in the top wall spaced over substantially the whole of the projection of the element on the top wall and the element 32 is arranged so that it can be heated to such a temperature that gases passing to the vents 48 are burned. The vents 48 may be formed in the lower wall of a passage leading to the hot-plate of the stove. An electrically heated oven may be arranged for heat cleaning, the door latch having a locking device to prevent opening of the door during cleaning, and switching devices being arranged so that the element is energized for only part of the heat cleaning cycle and to prevent overheating. Catalytic material may be arranged in the vent passages, and the top element may be used alone for heat cleaning, its temperature being raised to 1200-1500‹ F., the liner reaching a temperature of about 1000‹ F.
