Abstract

1,131,015. Ovens. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 1 March, 1966 [2 March, 1965], No. 8818/66. Heading F4W. A domestic oven 10, heated by gas or electricity, intended to be built into a wall and having an oven cavity 11 which is self-cleaning by the principle of pyrolysis between 750‹ and 950‹ F., comprises an inner insulated wall 12, the insulation being held in place by a guard 24, an outer wall 26, a cooling air chamber 27 formed between these walls to which air is drawn by a fan 38 in a plenum chamber 40, the air entering through grid 29 and leaving through grid 34, and a catalytic oxidation unit 49 which receives the gases from an oven vent 48 and decomposes them before they are returned to the kitchen via duct 50 and nozzle 51, some of the air from the fan being blown over duct 50 and out around nozzle 51. Heat is supplied to the oven by lower element 14, upper element 15 and a perimeter or mullion heater 17 adjacent the door. A door latching mechanism 22 prevents opening of the door if the oven temperature is above a predetermined maximum and a pivoted damper plate 44 is interconnected with the power circuit so that the heating elements cannot be energized unless the fan 38 is operating. A separate chamber 66 for wiring, which forms the subject-matter of Specification 1,131,016, is provided in order to prevent smoke leakage.
