1,238,465. Self-cleaning ovens. SIMPLEX ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 19 Nov., 1968 [2 Dec., 1967], No. 54931/67. Heading F4W. An electric cooker comprises a pivoted hotplate 13 having one or more electric hot-plate units, and a self-cleaning electric oven 10, the gases from an oven cleaning operation being exhausted from an oven outlet 18 through a vent duct having walls 22, 24 which define therebetween a channel for an induced flow of cool air from a space beneath the hot-plate. The duct wall 24 is supported by the wall 22. If the outlet shown in the hot-plate is inadvertently closed, the exhaust gases pass into the space below the hot-plate. A chamber 16 contains an electrically heated catalytic oxidizing element. A spill tray 20 is provided, and a duct outlet 25 includes a wire guard. In another embodiment, the vent duet comprises inner and outer straight tubes having apertures respectively at their upper and lower end, and extending fully between the outlet in the hot-plate and the outlet 18 which are aligned.
