Abstract

1,268,718. Microwave heating. MICROWAVE FURNACE & KILN CONSULTANTS Inc. 1 July, 1969, No. 33294/69. Heading H5H. In a micro-wave kiln, the heat to be applied to the articles being processed is generated by the presence, within the kiln, of a mass of particles of electrically resistive material. The resistive material 15 which may, for example, be ferrite or divided carbon, is stated to reach a temperature above 2000‹ C. and may be packed into an article, as where it is shown within an article of pottery 14c, it may be located within a protective, heat-permeable enclosure 12, the article 14a to be heated being outside this enenclosure but within the oven cavity 10, or the article to be heated, 14b, may be packed in a mass of the heat converting material. Reference is made to the provision of vent holes 8, 9 in the oven structure 5 and to the use of a number of such structures arranged on a conveyer 21, which are, in turn, engaged and rotated by a hollow spindle driven by a motor 19 while microwave energy is introduced through the spindle 2 from a generator 1.
