Abstract
1,235,847. Cable terminations. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. 18 Dec., 1968 [18 Dec., 1967], No. 57285/67. Heading H2E. A metal sealing pot 1 for a mineral insulated cable 6 comprises a peripheral wall 3, a base 2 having an aperture 4 for entry of the cable 6 and a bore 5 opening into the aperture; the aperture and bore having axes whose minimum separation is a distance (c, Fig. 2, not shown) which is less (preferably by 10-13%) than the sum (a + b) of their radii. A pin 8 driven with the bore 5, bears upon the surface of the cable 6 within the aperture 4, and secures it in place by deforming it. The aperture, bore and pin are normally of uniform circular cross-section, though the bore and pin may be both slightly tapered. In the latter case the pin may be solid; normally it is of tubular spring steel or beryllium copper with an unbonded overlapping seam or with a C-shaped cross-section, and with a free diameter greater than the diameter (2 x b) of the bore 5. The arrangement may be used in conjunction with a self-tapping screw thread in the entry aperture 4.
