Abstract
1,176,640. Cable connectors. BURNDY CORP. 20 July, 1967 [25 July, 1966], No. 4557/69. Divided out of 1,172,771. Heading H2E. [Also in Division D1] A conductive metal connector 10 for making a lap splice connection between two cables comprises a channel-shaped substantially like an open figure 8 and adapted to receive one cable in the portion 12 near the base and the other cable in the portion 16 farther from the base. The end of one arm 50 of the channel forms a lip which holds a reinforcing insert 52 and the end part 20 of the other arm is deformed over this insert, when the channel is forced closed over the cables, to secure the arms together. A groove 40 is provided in the channel base to facilitate closing the channel which is done by hammering the ends together or by squeezing in a compression press. Transverse ridges 34 are provided to prevent axial movement of the retained cables.
