Abstract

1,234,279. Tubular heat exchangers. SULZER BROS. Ltd. 22 Aug., 1968 [31 Aug., 1967], No. 40148/68. Addition to 1,184,953. Heading F4S. In a heat exchanger of the type disclosed in Specification 1,184,953, wherein a plurality of helically coiled tubes 2 are concentrically disposed around a central core 30 to which are fixed three circumferentially spaced radially extending retaining plates 4, 5, 6, each provided with suitable holes through which the tubes 2 pass, additional radially extending plates 60 are interposed, as shown, between the retaining plates. The radial width of the additional plates 60 is smaller than the radial width of the tube system. The helical tubes 2 also pass through holes in the plates 60 and may be secured thereto by welding. Alternatively, each plate 60 may be joined to an adjacent retaining plate 4, 5 or 6 by a resilient rod which accommodates any expansion movements of the helical tubes 2. The tube coils may alternatively be of spiral form or be disposed on a conical envelope.
