Abstract

1,233,628. Bolt fastenings. GRETSCH-UNITAS G.m.b.H. 28 Feb., 1969 [26 March, 1968], No. 10752/69. Heading E2A. A bolting device for a casement window comprises a mounting member 1 which in use is adapted to be fixed to a casement window frame, and which carries a hand operable control mechanism 2 with longitudinally displaceable mechanical linkages connected to opposite sides of the mechanism and which are connected to corner fittings 3, the corner fittings being connected to bolting members (not shown) arranged in use at 90‹ to the mechanical linkages, wherein the mechanical linkages on each side of the mechanims include pairs of extension members 4, 5 which are releasably and adjustably coupled to one another, wherein for each linkage an end portion 4' of one extension member 4 is provided with an axially extending opening which receives an end portion of another member 5 to couple said members together to prevent axial movement of one member with respect to the other. The linkages are adjustable in length and as shown each member 4 is provided with internal screw threads and each member 5 is provided with external screw threads which are engageable with the internal screw threads in any desired position. The screw threads of each member are of the interrupted kinds so that in one position of rotation of the member 5 relative to the member 4 the threads are interengaged and rotation through 90‹ disengages the threads so that the member 5 can be slid relative to the member 4. A lock nut 10 is provided for locking the two members together. The member 4 can be made of soft metal with the threads formed when the member 5 which is made of harder metal is forced into engagement with it. In a modification the end portion only of each member 4 is provided with screw threads and this portion is split longitudinally and below the screw threadsis of frusto conical form. Each member 5 is circular in cross section and is screw threaded over the whole of its periphery and the two members are secured together by a lock nut 21 which has a frusto conical internal portion which engages the frusto conical external portion of the member 4. In a modification, for each linkage one member is U shaped in cross section and its side walls are provided with internal teeth which are engageable with external teeth of the other member which is rectangular in cross section to enable the two members to be connected together in any desired position; the two members being engaged and disengaged by transverse movement.
