Abstract

1,217,158. Non-universal pivoting. WALKER & WOOD Ltd. 28 March, 1968 [28 June, 1967], No. 29803/67. Heading E2F. A hinge, particularly useful on windows, comprises a first member 10 and second member 17, a bearing member 20 having a bearing surface for pivotal engagement with a corresponding surface formed on member 17 and being so shaped for engagement with member 10 as to inhibit rotation between members 10 and 20, member 10 being so shaped as to permit member 20 to be slidable radially of the axis of pivoting into and out of engagement with member 10, thereby to engage or disengage members 10 and 17. The bearing surface of the bearing member 20, which is preferably made of nylon, may be a frustoconical spigot engaging a corresponding frustoconical bore 19 in member 17 and frictional engagement between members 20 and 17 may be increased or decreased by a coaxial threaded means such as a screw 22 engaging a thread formed in members 10 or 20 and having means 23, 24 for engaging an adjusting tool at both ends. The bearing member 20 may be provided with an axially extending projection 21 so shaped for engagement in a complementary shaped radical slot 18, provided in the first member 10, the slot having one open end whereby the bearing member is engageable with or disengageable from the first member 10 by sliding the projection along the slot. An axial spacing ring 26 may be provided between members 10 and 17.
