Abstract

An air supply and preheating unit 17 comprises a vertical casing 19 through an upper opening 20 in which an oil burner (not shown) projects into a combustion chamber of a boiler (Fig. 1, not shown), the unit lying within the combustion chamber adjacent the inner surface of its front wall. Combustion air, either direct from the atmosphere, or supplied by one or more blowers 22 synchronized with the motor of the oil burner, passes via one or more lower air inlet openings 21, up over spaced baffles 25 to exit through apertures 27, 29, 31 circumferentially disposed about the upper burner opening 20. Some air may be discharged into the bottom of the combustion chamber by way of one or more baffled tubular supply units 24. The casing 19 may be made in two halves, which are assembled together within the combustion chamber.
