Abstract
<PICT:0919308/III/1> <PICT:0919308/III/2> <PICT:0919308/III/3> A fluidized bed apparatus comprises a casing in which the fluidized bed is formed above an apertured plate in which the apertures have upwardly converging lower entrances and cylindrical bores at their upper ends for a height at least twice the diameter of the apertures. As shown, the bed is formed on a plate 11 with apertures 22 having lower entrances 32 curved in the shape of a standard I.S.A. nozzle (B.S. 1042:1943) and upper bores 33. The apertures may have cylindrical covers 34 raised above them with horizontal arcuate openings 36. Air for combustion enters through a damper-controlled duct 17 into a combustion chamber 15, whence combustion gases, together with air or gas from a damper-controlled duct 19 pass into a chamber 13, up through the bed and out through duct 25. The bed is formed of solid material screw-fed in at 24, and the depth of the bed is determined by a weir 28.
