Abstract
1,230,621. Thermal storage heaters. PARKINSON COWAN Ltd. 28 Aug., 1968, No. 41086/68. Heading F4U. In a thermal storage heater in which two fans 22 force air through an inverted U-shaped passage 6, 8 in the storage core 4, the fans 22 are mounted on a plate 18 which separates the unheated and heated air streams and which is removable from the heater through an opening formed by removing an air exit grille 30 and a lower wall portion 28. A core by-pass flap valve 62 and its bimetal operating element 64 are also mounted on the plate 18 to be removable with it, as may be speed control means for the fans. A manually operated flap valve 38 controls the heated air flow through the grille 30. Air inlet openings 26 are provided in the wall 2a, but the openings may alternatively be provided in the wall 28. The plate 18 is mounted by screws 21 on flanges 20 in a central compartment of the heater. By removal of plates (14), Fig. 3 (not shown), the air exit flow path of the central compartment may be placed in communication with end compartments which have air outlet apertures 32 and 34 which may be utilized by the removal of blanking plates 36. The flap valve 38 then functions to control the proportions of heated air passing from the apertures 32 and 34 and from the grille 30. The apertures 32 and 34 may be connected by ducts to rooms other than that in which the heater is located and the ducts may be provided with air flow control means. Electrical connection to the components mounted on the plate 18 may be made through a plug and socket in the heater to allow complete detachment of the plate from the heater.
