A continuous filament, polyethylene terephthalate or nylon yarn having little or no twist (0-¢ t.p.i.) and maintained as a unitary structure by a network of intermingled or interlaced filaments is acceptable for weaving and knitting if (a) its cohesiveness as measured by travel of a loaded yarn sample relative to a test needle inserted therein and expressed in terms of "coherency factor" is 20-150, preferably 40-100 and (b) the separation of filaments from the main body of a yarn sample deposited on the surface of water and expressed in terms of "spreadability factor is not greater than 9, preferably less than 5. Such yarn may be, and as specifically described is, produced by the process and apparatus of the parent specification but is not limited to the product thereof.
