Abstract
1,225,674. Ion sources. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 4 April, 1968 [7 April, 1967], No.16198/68. Heading H1D. A high-frequency discharge ion source comprises a secondary-electron emitting electrode 1 and a mesh grid electrode 2, the electrode spacing and the amplitude and frequency of the alternating voltage applied across the electrodes being such that secondary electrons emitted by the electrode 1 return again to the electrode after one cycle of the alternating voltage. An extractor electrode 3 is supported on a quartz plate 4 and an accelerator electrode is shown at 5. The gas is a deuteriumtritium mixture at a pressure of 10<SP>-4</SP> Torr. The ion source may be used in a neutron generator. Suitable dimensions and voltages are given.
