Abstract

1,224,114. Heat-treating stainless steel. JAPAN ATOMIC ENERGY RESEARCH INSTITUTE. March 19, 1969 [March 19, 1968], No.14337/69. Heading C7A. A steel containing in percentage by weight:- is cold-worked at least 10%, heated in the range 500‹ to 800‹C. to precipitate carbides, and then, with or without intermediate cooling, heated at a temperature greater than the precipitation temperature and within the range 650‹ to 950‹C. to effect re-crystallization of the matrix. The resultant steel has improved high-temperature yield strength and is resistant to embrittlement resulting from high temperature radiation; it may be used in nuclear reactors, particularly the breeder type.
