[Also in Division G6] A uranium base alloy, for use in a fuel element of a nuclear reactor, comprises:- Sn 0À02-0À15% one Cr 0À02-0À08% Fe 0À02-0À08% and optionally Al 0À02-02% and/or Si 0À02-0À15% the balance, apart from impurities, being uranium. The alloy may be heated in the beta phase region below 750‹ C., quenched (e. g. in oil or water) or subjected to interrupted quenching at 500 and 600‹ C. (e.g. in a salt bath or by induction heating) and then advantageously aged at 450-600‹ C.
