Abstract

A corrosion resistant alloy, for a nuclear reactor fuel element, has the following composition by weight: Ti 2.5-6%, Nb 1-2%, U the remainder. The preferred alloy has a Ti content of 3% and a Nb content of 1.5% and this alloy may be heat treated by quenching from 750 or 1000 DEG C. or by quenching from 1000 DEG C. and ageing at 400 DEG C. for 2 hours. The Specification also refers to a uranium-base alloy containing 5% Zr and 1.5% Nb. Specification 817,751 is referred to.
