Abstract
1,217,602. Copper alloys. FORSCHUNGSINSTITUT C³r NE-METALLE. Jan.2, 1968, No.302/68. Heading C7A. A hardenable Cu alloy contains Fe and Ti in a total amount of 0À4-1% by weight, the ratio Fe: Ti being 1:1 to 1À6:1. The remainder of the alloy consists of Cu apart from impurities. The alloy is made by melting electrolytic Cu in an open induction furnace or gas-heated furnace, optionally together with anti-oxidant; adding the Fe and Ti; casting; hot-working to 50-75% reduction; homogeniz - ing for 1-3 hours at 950‹-1000‹C.; quenching e.g. in water; annealing for 4-6 hours at 450‹-600‹C., the temperature being in inverse relationship to the time; cooling in air or water; and cold-working to 60-75% reduction. If desired, a 75% cold-working may be effected before annealing. The alloy may be used for spot-welding electrodes, commutators, armatures and overhead electric lines.
