Abstract

121,663. Johnson, F. A. L. Feb. 2, 1918. Sparking-plugs.-The outer part of the casing is made of larger diameter internally than usual so as to leave an annular space between the casing and the inner portion of the plug. The central conductor e is formed with a large flange e<1>, and is enclosed by mica wrapping d and two series of mica washers separated by a ring b of larger diameter which may be of metal, or partly of metal and partly of mica, and which is seated on a shoulder near the outer extremity of the casing, said extremity being turned over the ring b ; or the ring b may be formed as a gland nut screwing into the casing. The ring b may be of two diameters, and may also have a projecting sleeve at its inner circumference, said sleeve being pressed against the mica wrapping. The outer series of washers may be replaced by or covered with a cap of porcelain. The outer end of the casing and the metal ring b may form one member, in which case the electrode with the inner set of mica washers is inserted within the inner end of the casing, and a third series of washers placed between the shoulder on the central conductor and the ring carrying the earthed terminals.
