Abstract

1,214,853. Outboard drives. SCANIA-VABIS. A.B. 8 Jan., 1968 [9 Jan., 1967], No. 1027/68. Heading B7V. In a boat's high-speed drive unit comprising an inboard engine 1 and outboard propelling system, the boat is steered by turning the outboard propelling system about vertical pivot 23 located outside the stern board 8 of the boat and the outboard propelling system can be swung backwards about horizontal pivots 25. The outboard propelling system is firmly attached to the inboard engine the shaft of which is coaxial with the input drive shaft 6 of the propelling system, which input shaft extends through a hole in the stern board and, via clutch 5 between the two shafts, can be speeded synchronously with the engine speed. The input drive shaft 6 transmits torque via chain 44 to propeller unit 60 the propeller of which has blades 51 which can be turned between two end positions for alternative ahead and astern propulsion of the boat. The blades 51 are hydraulically operable by piston-rod 67 mounted in hydraulic cylinder 56b which is part of propeller shaft 56.
