Abstract

1,223,835. Boat propulsion and steering. E. G. LUCAS. 5 April, 1968 [5 April, 1967; 16 Oct., 1967], Nos. 15595/67 and 47119/67. Heading B7V. A boat propulsion and steering apparatus comprises a screw propeller 28 carried by a rudder stock 3 and driven by a motor 6 at the top of the rudder stock. Hydraulic motor 6 is connected by flexible lines to pump 10 driven by I.C. engine 11. Gear casing 22 supports propeller 28 in an aperture in rudder 4. A drive shaft (13, Figs. 2, 3, not shown) is axially slidably keyed to the motor output shaft and extends through the stock 3 into casing 22. When motor 6 is not in use shaft 13 is moved axially by an eccentric pin (15) out of driving connection with shaft 13. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the rudder stock is slidable andpivotableinanupper fixed yoke 33, and is pivotable in a lower yoke 55 rotatable by an hydraulic cylinder to lift the rudder and propeller. In Fig. 9 (not shown) stock 3 carrying the propeller is axially slidable in a tiller arm.
