Abstract

1474045 Outboard drives C BUDDRUS 6 Dec 1974 52825/74 Heading B7V A marine propulsion and guidance system comprises a main fluid pressure generator 16, e.g. a reversible variable displacement axial piston pump, and a helm fluid pressure generating system 30, e.g. a radial piston pump, within the vessel, a manifold hinge 54 rigidly mounted on a generally horizontal axis outside the vessel, a drive having an upper section 64 mounted to oscillate in a vertical plane about the hinge 54, and a lower section having a drive motor 68, e.g. an axial piston motor, to drive a propeller 70, and mounted to oscillate about a generally vertical axis 160 with respect to the upper section and fluid conduits 20, 57, 100 connecting the helm generator 16 with the motor 68, and conduits 34, 50 connecting the helm generator 30 with oscillating motor 82. The motor 82 comprises a piston 86 with a rack 88 meshing with a gear 94 on the lower section shaft 92. A gear pump 40 actuates a trim and lift motor 106 for altering the angle of the drive axis 160, and lifting the drive relative to the water.
