Abstract

1,267,636. Outboard drive arrangement. DANA CORP. 27 Aug., 1970 [3 Sept., 1969], No. 41393/70. Heading B7V. An outboard propeller (14) is driven by an inboard engine (not shown) through a series of universally jointed shafts which permit the propeller to be swung about vertical and horizontal axes intersecting at the centre 137 of universal joint element 156. Extension and contraction of hydraulic ram 158 moves the propeller vertically and steering gear (not shown) acts on ram cylinder 160 to swing the whole lower assembly 20 about trunnions 172, 182. A flexible boot 28, sealed to lower unit 20 and transom 12, shrouds the mechanism. Engine cooling water intakes (202) and outlet (200) are incorporated in the lower assembly.
