Abstract
121,484. Cozette, R. J. P. E. Dec. 11, 1917, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-In a carburettor more especially applicable to aviation motors, the main or pure air supply is led first through a controlling valve and then through an unobstructed mixing chamber of Venturi or double cone formation into which a rich mixture is introduced at the narrowest section through a peripheral series of inlets, the said valve serving also to admit air to a series of nozzles which may be brought into action by a second valve actuated from the first. The nozzles, one of which is shown at 22, Fig. 2, are situated in a chamber 21 adjacent the float chamber 5 and deliver into conduits 11, Fig. 4, which communicate through holes 13 with the Venturi passages 2. The outlets 12, 18 from the nozzle choke tubes are controlled by a ported extension 10 of a manually-actuated valve 9 which admits air to the nozzle chamber 21 and to the Venturi passages 2 to dilute the mixture. The valve 9 is held in place by a spider 19 and is actuated by a lever 31. A second lever 34 has in its boss 33 an air hole 32, and by adjusting this lever the time at which air may be admitted through the tube 30, Fig. 4, to provide an altitude correction may be varied. The Venturi passages 2 are jacketed at 15. The float levers are positively connected to the float 6. The float chamber communicates through a hole 28 with the chamber 21, excess fuel in which may be drained away at 29. Fuel enters at 3 and is filtered at 4. One of the mixing chambers 2 is omitted when the carburettor supplies a single cylinder or several cylinders arranged in a single line.
