Abstract

1,214,219. Plate heat exchangers. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORP. 31 July, 1968 [25 Sept., 1967], No. 36511/68. Heading F4S. A plate heat exchanger consists of a plurality of modules (each comprising a pair of plates 26, 28 spaced by side closure bars 32 and fins 30) stacked with a layer of sealant preferably not more than 0À12 mm. thick, interposed between adjacent modules. A preferred sealant is a polymer of the anaerobic type applied as a liquid and then cured at room temperature or by baking. In the cross-flow heat exchanger shown fluid passages formed by the fins 30 extend between headers (16, 18 or 12, 14, Fig. 1), and other passages 36 for any fluid leakage past the closure bars 32 are defined by additional closure bars 34. The passages 36 may discharge into collector headers (24, Fig. 1).
