Abstract
1,166,519. Heat exchangers. M. MENKUS. 7 Dec., 1967 [31 Jan., 1967], No. 55718/67. Heading F4S. A heat exchange panel 10 consists of plates (not shown in the figure but indicated at 50, 52 in Figs. 3 and 4 and 350, 252 in Fig. 5) between which is disposed an arrangement of cells interconnected to provide juxtaposed, tortuous flow paths through the panel for fluids exchanging heat with one another through the cell walls. The cells shown are defined by a grid or lattice of interdigitated plastics or metal strips having cut-away portions providing ports 24, 34 which interconnect the cells of a flow path. The cells may be rectangular, square or rectangular, and a plurality of panels may be stacked so that each cell is bounded on all sides by other cells. The fluid flow paths of adjacent panels may be interconnected. The flow paths for each fluid may be connected to inlet and outlet headers (not shown) and the respective fluid streams may flow concurrently or countercurrently. The panel may form a structural part of a building (e.g. a wall or roof) where it may be used to exchange heat between incoming and outgoing air streams.
