Abstract

1439674 Thermal regenerators CENTRAL ELECTRICITY GENERATING BOARD B CHOJNOWSKI P E CHEW and P HUMPHRIES 9 Jan 1975 [24 Nov 1973] 24957/73 Heading F4K In a regenerative heat exchanger matrix comprising undulated plates 11 alternating with corrugated plates 10 to form a stack, the undulated plates 11 each have their undulations 13 extending in a zig-zag pattern with respect to the direction of fluid flow A through the matrix. The peaks 12 of the corrugations of each plate 10 extend in the direction of fluid flow A. The undulations in successive regions 15, 16, 17 of the plates 11 are at equal and opposite angles to the fluid flow direction; preferably this angle is 30 degrees. The peaks of the undulations of adjacent regions 15, 16, 17 of each plate 11 may be continuous with one another, as shown, or be discontinuous with the peaks of the undulations of one region terminating midway between the peaks of the undulations in adjacent regions (see Fig. 6, not shown).
