Abstract

1,210,951. Carburetters. ZENITH CARBURETTER CO. Ltd. May 5, 1969 [Feb. 5, 1968], No.5725/68. Heading F1B. A starting fuel supply means comprises a control valve having a connection to the induction passages of two or more carburetters so that suction in any one of the inductive passages draws fuel through the control valve when open into that induction passage, a non-return valve being interposed in each connection. Fuel is drawn from a float chamber 23 Fig.1 of an associated carburetter through a non-return valve 24, opening 25, recess 14, apertures 27 in a manually rotatable disc 27 and through recesses 15 or 16 and non-return valves 19, 21 to the induction passages 17 or 18. A bi-metallic coil may open the valve automatically when the engine is cold. In addition a suctionoperated device may effect initial partial closure of the valve as soon as the engine starts. In another embodiment the valve is a needle 44, Fig.4 co-operating with an orifice 45. The needle 44 is lifted by clockwise movement of a unit 56 mounted on a spindle 55. Arm 58 of unit 56 is acted on by an engine suction responsive spring- loaded piston 59. Another arm 63 is acted on by a bi-metallic coil which positions the needle 44 in an intermediate position when the engine temerature is low. A stepped cam 64 provides an abutment for a plunger 65 serving as a fast idling stop for the linked carburetter throttles. In further modifications a single series of holes in the disc to Fig. 1 may lead into a single conduit which is branched to each carburetter, each branch including a non-return valve. When more than two carburetters are employed each may be supplied through a separate outlet orifice and an associated series of holes in the disc. (For Figures see next page)
