Abstract
1,210,765. I. C. engine poppet valves. EATON YALE & TOWNE Inc. March 19, 1969 [April 10, 1968], No. 14527/69. Heading F1B. [Also in Division B3] An iron-based alloy poppet valve has its head 10 provided with a continuous nickel coating 14, e. g. 0À00025"-0À01", at least on the metallurgically clean outer surface of the face.12. The valve is heat-treated to thermally diffuse nickel from the coating into the head and provide a bond between the coating and head of nickel-iron alloy. The nickel may be applied by immersion of a cleaned valve head 10, e.g. chemically cleaned, machined, ground or shot blasted, in a nickel plating bath. The nickel coated valve seat 19 may be sprayed with aluminium and heat treated to produce a nickelaluminium alloy.
