Abstract
Al is sprayed on to the outside of a grey cast iron wet cylinder liner of an I.C. engine to reduce the effect of cavitation erosion. The method consists in making the liner, heat treating it, spraying Al or Al alloy on to its outside, and melting and fusing the Al or Al alloy to the Fe by heating with an inductor ring which is passed along the outside of the liner.
