Cylinders, cooling.-In a water-cooled cylinder head, especially applicable to sleeve-valve engines, a water-tight joint is formed between the barrel portion B and its jacket D by a packing 16 which is held inside the water space, by a spaced metal ring 17. This ring is preferably resilient, and rests on parts projecting from an annular part 20 of the head which is bolted to the cylinder barrel; the jacket D is fixed to the head by a screwed ring 14. An emptying syphon-pipe 23 may be soldered to one of a number of perforations 21 provided in the ring 17.
