Abstract
1,208,635. Fuel injection pumps. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. June 11, 1968 [June 16, 1967], No.27625/68. Heading F1A. In a fuel injection pump of the type in which a control edge on the piston surface uncovers a spill-port to regulate delivery the cylinder wall has relief groove 10 and the piston surface has annular fuel-collecting grooves 13, 14 connected by a spiral groove 15. At the end of the injection stroke, the fuel-collecting groove 13 overlaps the relief groove 10 and pressurized fuel-flow from spill-port 7 and a channel 11, into the fuel-collecting groove 14. In the embodiment shown, at the end of the suction stroke, the fuel-collecting groove 14 emerges from the cylinder and the consequent relief forces any injurious residues and old fuel out of the end of the piston to be wiped off on the next injection stroke. When the pump is to be used with highly purified fuels, the groove 14 need not be arranged to emerge from the cylinder at the end of the suction stroke, Fig. 2 (not shown).
