Abstract

1,266,872. Fuel injection pumps. C. A. V. Ltd. June 13, 1969 [July 1, 1968], No.31261/68. Heading F1A. In a rotary cylindrical distributer type fuel injection pump having cam actuated plungers a spring-loaded valve element 26 is disposed in a cylinder 25 in each of the outlets 15, the end of the cylinder remote from the distributer 11 being in communication with a source of constant pressure. On the injection stroke the element 26 is moved against the spring to uncover a groove 27 communicating with a pipe line 22 to the injection nozzles 23, the movement being limited by a peg 28. On completion of the injection stroke, and with the outlet 15 and delivery passage 14 still in communication, the fuel pressure falls until at a predetermined value the element moves to cut off groove 27, thus stabilizing the pressure in the pipeline. Continued inward movement of the element occurs during which fuel is forced from the cylinder into the delivery passage thus maintaining the pressure in the passage. By minimizing the pressure variations in the pipeline 22 and passage 14 variations in delivery volume are limited.
