Abstract

1,273,140. Fuel injection pumps. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Oct. 30, 1969 [Nov. 15, 1968], No.54304/68. Heading F1A. In a rotary distributer fuel injection pump valves 130 and 131 respectively are provided in the delivery passage 109 and each of the outlet ports 110 so that pressure waves arising from the closing of the injection nozzle valve do not affect the fuel pressure in the distributer. Valve 130 comprises a valve body 138 in a stepped bore between the delivery passage and an axial bore 108 connected to the pumping chamber 103, pumped fuel displaces the valve body against a spring 139 and thus passes via the passage 109 into the outlet 110. The valve 131 comprises a valve body 135 spring-loaded in a barrel 134 mounted in an adapter 132, the body having an annular groove 137 communicating via an internal bore with the outlet passage 110. Fuel axially displaces the body 135 until the groove 137 clears the end of the barrel whereupon fuel passes to the injection nozzle. At the end of the pumping stroke and whilst the passage 109 and port 110 are still in register the valves close, valve 130 closing first because of its smaller displacement. Fuel between the valves is slightly pressurized when valve 131 closes. Fuel is supplied to the pumping chamber from a feed pump 101 via a throttle and a shuttle measuring cylinder.
