Abstract

1,219,631. Fuel Injection pumps. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Jan. 26, 1968 [Jan. 27, 1967], No. 4078/68. Heading F1A. In a fuel injection pump of the rotary distributor type in which a by-pass valve is opened during the stroke of the injection plunger to terminate injection, by a pressure pulse operating in synchronism with the reciprocating plunger, the pressure pulses are derived from the feed pump in conjunction with the rotary distributor. As shown in Fig. 1, during the suction stroke the feed pump 1 supplies fuel through passages 32, 33, 36, chamber 34, the pressure in which is regulated by a valve 43, and passages 41, 40, 23. On the delivery tube the passage 39 is closed and delivery takes place through passages 23, 24 to one of the outlets 3; at the same time the high feed pump pressure passes from a groove 36 through valve 38 to the under side of the valve 5 which is raised until the groove 28 connects the by-pass passages 6a, 6b to terminate injection. On the subsequent suction stroke the valve 5 returns towards its stop 29 under the action of the spring 9, pushing liquid beneath it through the adjustable throttle 10, the feed pump pressure during this period dropping to the set pressure in the suction chamber 34. A further embodiment is described in which the inwardly acting plungers are replaced by outwardly acting plungers (17a). In a further embodiment the invention is applied to a rotating and reciprocating plunger type distributing pump.
