Abstract

1,204,280. Programmed textile treating. HEBERLEIN & CO. A.G. 28 April, 1969 [30 April, 1968], No. 21608/69. Heading D1L. A process wherein a treating fluid is passed from inside through a textile material wound on a rotatable perforated drum is characterized in that the drum is divided internally into a plurality of separate chambers into which flow of the fluid is selectively controlled, electrically or mechanically, by a predetermined programme. The chambers may be arranged symmetrically about a central chamber and fluid control may be symmetrical (i.e. to chamber pairs), individual, or "progressive" (in which the chambers open progressively from the centre and close in reverse sequence). The following control methods are described and illustrated; (1) an axially slidable shaft runs the length of the drum and is provided with resiliently mounted disc valves to control annular flow passages between chambers; (2) a similar but hollow shaft is provided through which liquid is supplied, and flow is controlled by axially spaced grooves in its surface; (3) a plurality of flow pipes is provided each of which opens in an individual chamber or symmetrical chamber pair, liquid flow being controlled by valves at each pipe inlet; (4) flow pipes as in (3) are provided; the inlets of which all point radially towards the axis of the drum, there being provided a hollow shaft for liquid supply which has an axially rotatable and slidable cylinder having apertures in its surface which selectively engage said inlets; (5) a series of concentric supply pipes is provided, each pipe terminating in one chamber of a symmetrically-connected pair, and liquid control is effected via a valve for each pipe.
