Abstract
1,203,901. Conveying furnace charges. LUMMUS CO. 22 Jan., 1969 [22 Jan., 1968], No. 3662/69. Heading F4B. Granular material is conveyed through a kiln by a series of platforms 21 linked together in pairs by rocking arms 31, 32 and links 33, and oscillated about axes 24 by links 36 pivotally connected at 35 to arms 32 and 33 and at 38 to a reciprocating drive rod 37, so that as platform A moves upwardly platform B moves downwardly and vice versa. The platforms comprise a metal base 22 with refractory upper portion 23, are thicker at their upstream ends and may be fluid cooled. They may be formed entirely of a heatresisting metal and may also have side walls. In a modification (Figs. 3 and 4) alternate platforms may be oscillated by separate drive rods. Another modification (Fig. 5) has pairs of platforms pivotally linked to the bottom corners of an inverted triangular rocker plate oscillated about its base by a link connecting its apex to a drive rod.
