Abstract

340,376. Saggers for pottery. NAYLOR, G. W., NAYLOR, J. F., NAYLOR, W., and NAYLOR, C. E., Bromley Fireclay Works, Denby Dale, near Huddersfield. Nov. 18, 1929, No. 35135. [Class 87 (i).] A sagger or the like has the bottom detachable from the body, which is made in one or more pieces, and has its upper and lower ends flat, rounded, or bevelled to engage the correspondingly shaped faces of the bottom. The bottom may be made with grooves in its upper and/or lower surfaces, or with recessed or bevelled edges, or with upward and/or downward flanges or projections to hold the lower or upper end of the body. The sections of the body may have flat, grooved, rounded, or bevelled surfaces, or may be flanged or recessed to engage each other. The sections may be held together by pegs or wires, horizontal, inclined, or vertical. Cotton, hempen, &c. combustible bands may hold the sections together during the early stages of the firing. Fig. 14 shows one example in which two saggers a are supported one above the other by a bottom member b grooved on one side. Fig 17 shows one example of a sagger made in two pieces.
