Abstract

813,362. Walking beam conveyers for furnaces. SVENSKA METALLVERKENS UGNS A.B. March 8, 1957 [March 19, 1956], No. 7781/57. Class 51 (2). In a metal heating furnace having a walking beam conveyer A, escape of heat from gaps 24, 25 between fixed members 5, 6 and a movable member 7 of the conveyer is prevented by baffles 26, 27 and 28, 29 depending from said members into separate water troughs 30 and 31 respectively. Scale falling through the gaps 24, 25 into troughs 32 is discharged into end receptacles 33 by water supplied into a connecting trough at the head end of member 7 which has a baffle 36 engaging said connecting trough. Troughs 31 are made deep enough to allow of movement of the baffles 28, 29 carried by member 7, and troughs 30 receive the fixed baffles 26, 27. The outer walls of troughs 30 and 31 are made higher than the inner walls so that any excess water runs into the troughs 32.
