Abstract

1,202,944. Friction gearing. ESCHER WYSS G.m.b.H. 13 Nov., 1967 [11 Nov., 1966], No. 51613/67. Heading F2Q. A device for starting a winding spindle 15 in a web winding machine, having a supporting drum 1 for the roll being wound on to the spindle, comprises a friction drive unit which consists of a rocking lever 9 mounted on a pivot 8 and carrying at one end a roller 5 and at the other end a pulley 12 and a friction wheel 11, the roller 5 and pulley 12 being interconnected by a belt 10. During movement of the winding spindle 15 from its inoperative position 16 to its operative position 17, it engages the roller 5, thus rocking lever 9 and causing the friction wheel 11 to engage an inner surface 14 of drum 1 and to be driven thereby. As soon as the peripheral speed of the winding spindle 15 is equal to the speed of the web, the spindle is shifted farther into the working position thereby releasing the friction drive unit. The pivot 8 is mounted on a linkage 18 which is adjustable by means of an elastic element 19 in order to vary the application force of friction wheel 11.
